  1. HP laptop screen has gone wonky and HDMI is shot

Here's what it looks like: https://ibb.co/XsZ0Hmr

The beast: An ancient HP Notebook 15-r210ne with a Dell E1910H external display hooked up via a VGA>HDMI adapter. Notebook has integrated Intel 5500U HD graphics and a discrete Nvidia GT820M GPU. Runs Windows 10 Fast Ring Insider build 19608.

The issue: Was jauntily surfing the interwebs and binging some Clone Wars when the laptop screen suddenly decided to emulate the Northern lights and went all shimmery green and purple. Very pretty in the sky, definitely not pretty when it's fucking with my screen. (The external display was still A-OK at this point.)

    Steps I've tried so far:

-Tried restarting (restart, complete shutdown and restart, complete shutdown with all cables and power sources -- battery included -- removed and power overnight, all that jazz. Tried it.) External display went bye-bye after this and now it won't detect at all.

-Display driver updates, uninstalls, reinstalls, the whole nine yards. Didn't work, my laptop screen is still prettily and infuriatingly trying to be the aurora borealis, and the external display still doesn't show up.

    Observations:

-Disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable sets off the "device disconnected/connected" sound, and the Device Manager refreshes every time I do this, which means the laptop is detecting something, but that something isn't showing up anywhere (including in Device Manager itself.)

-The external display and the VGA-HDMI adapter have been tested on another PC and both work fine, so it's not a problem with either of those.

What next? Can I fix this so at least one of the screens works as it should? Is there hope, or is the iGPU kaput?

  3. Screen Shot in Windows 10

    Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.

To guide you in the right direction, I need more information from the computer by answering the following questions:

    • What exactly are you referring to?
    • Are you facing any kind of issues with Windows?
If you want to take a screen shot and save it as picture, I suggest you to check with the below steps.

To take a screen shot and save it as a picture

    • Click the window you want to capture. Press Alt+Print Screen by holding down the Alt key and then pressing the Print Screen key. The Print Screen key is near the upper-right corner of your keyboard. (Depending on the type of keyboard you have, the exact
key names on your keyboard may vary slightly.)
Note: You can take a screen shot of your entire desktop rather than just a single window by pressing the Print Screen key without holding down the Alt key.

    • Click Start, click Accessories, and then click
      Paint.

    • In the Paint window, click Edit, and then click
      Paste.

    • When the image appears in the Paint window, click File, and then click
      Save As.

    • In the Save As dialog box, in the File name box, type a name for the screen shot, and then click
      Save.

Please do get back to us with the answers to assist you better with issue you are facing.

  4. HP laptop screen has gone wonky and HDMI is shot

Connecting laptop running windows 10 to hdtv with hdmi

    I'm not very tech savvy.

    • I know how to run the HDMI cable between laptop and tv.
    • I know how to set my tv to use correct HDMI port.
What I need to know is how I tell my laptop to recognize my tv and configure it to use my tv as a monitor.

Anyone that can tell me step by step how to do this in windows 10?

    Thanks.

    Edit 11:43 PM

Thanks for all the help. Hooked up the HDMI cable, plugged tv back in, started laptop up, switched the tv to correct HDMI port and viola...there was my laptop start screen on my tv! Didn't have to do anything but make a few display
    adjustments!

    Thanks again, everyone.
