Windows 10: HP Laptop Windows Login only giving PIN option

I have an HP laptop that I believe is running Windows 10. I havnt used the laptop in over a year. I recently booted it up a s was asked for a PIN. I tried all the PINs I could think of until it locked me out for tries. I do not get the option to use a password and it only let's me try one PIN and then ai have to reboot. I have also tried to boot to bios to see if may e I could just factory reset it. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Is there a way to enable password entry vs just PIN?

I suggest you to create a PIN for your device and try the on screen keyboard to login to the same.

You may follow the steps below to create PIN protection for your device.

• 
  Go to Settings and select account.
  
• 
  Click on sign in option and Go to PIN option.
  
• 
  Now click on Add and set PIN for login.
  

You can use the same PIN to login to your device using the on screen Keyboard from ease of access option and verify the result.

Win10/HP Pavillion - PIN "unavailable"

Using Win10 on an HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop

PIN went away. Now when I go into create a PIN I get "Something went wrong. Try again later". The step prior is: Start.>Settings>Accounts>Sign in Options>Windows Hello PIN and it reads "This options is currently unavailable - click to learn more". I
followed the steps suggested, but they don't work

Unable to login using The login PIN

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to change the pin and check fi it helps.

• In the login page next to “PIN password option”.
• You will find “Other sign in options”, click on it will prompt you for regular password.
• Enter regular password and login to the computer.
• I suggest you to click on the Start Menu
  and select settings.
• Now select Accounts.
• Next select the tab Sign-in option.
• Under the “PIN tab” click on “ADD” option.
• It will prompt you for current pin password and new password, please provide
  new password then apply the changes, restart
  the computer and check if it works.
