Windows 10: HP Laptop Wireless button won't change/ turn on orange to blue - Fixed

I've spent a day on this and thought I'd share. Laptop is a HP business laptop 6545b, but this applies to LOTS of HP laptops that use a line of light-up buttons just above the F1-F12 line of function keys, sometimes called Quick Launch buttons. My problem was when the "Wireless" button, with an icon of a wireless antenna on it, would stick at orange (wireless turned off) and wouldn't turn blue (wireless enabled). Windows 10 doesn't know how to fix this by itself. It'll stay stuck at orange. However, if you go into BIOS Setup at startup, and reset the BIOS settings to BIOS Defaults, and reboot, Windows 10 WILL turn on the wireless adaptor; (actually turning OFF Airplane Mode). Airplane Mode, for some reason, makes the adaptor invisible to Windows 10 and also Ubuntu 18.04.1, in my testing, and so no more setting changes can be made. Resetting to BIOS Defaults fixes it though. I'm sure I'm not the only one driven crazy by this Catch-22 behavior, so I hope this can do some good for someone else. - Dave.

Volume Mute Light won´t change color


I have an HP ProBook 6440b with a Win 10 Pro os. My problem is the volume mute light (#5 in the service manual, page 2-6). The switch works o.k. and shows when the mute function is on or off on the desktop but the light stays orange (muted position) regardless of the function being on or off. I know that the blue color is there as I see it flicker so slightly during upbooting but I can´t find out how to have the blue color show when the speakers are not muted. The wireless button (#4; page 2-6) changes color and the function works properly when pushed (tried it as a function comparison test) so I think this may be a slight software glitch in the sound system code but how to find and fix is way beyond my knowledge and skills. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please do tell but baby steps please as my computer skills are truly limited (old dog, new trick syndrome rules here).

 

Laptop won't Turn On

Someone came to me with an HP 2000 laptop that won't turn on. Luckily I had the same model laptop in working condition, so naturally I tried replacing out the battery and cord power supply to rule those out. The laptop still won't turn on, any ideas? I've already tried holding down the power button with everything removed.

This is a frequent problem am sure as you have already seen from online searches.

Flea power is usually the culprit here, basically its residual power that remains on the computer even after thecomputer has been shutdown. You can drain the flea power with the steps the other answers have suggested.

• Disconnecting the battery and adapter
• Press the hardpress the power button for 30 seconds
• This should clear the flea power
