Windows 10: HP Pavilion laptop backup issues

Have an HP Pavilion laptop for about two years, never worked properly, never able to back up properly. Backups have always defaulted to Recovery drive rather than separating system files from personal files and no one has been able to help me figure out how to remedy this. Been trying to back up to my iCloud account, but it won't budge, so basically nothing is backed up at all to iCloud. I don't want to always want to have use my external hard drive to do backups and I should not have to purchase a whole separate system, app, or other when any other computer includes an internal backup option. Anyone with HP Pavilion laptop have this issue? Not able to return or purchase a new system. Thanks and hope all are staying safe!

Its a Virgin media superhub I got,And no other devices in household had ever problems with connection,only that new laptop(I did buy wifi adapter,because I couldnt solve the problem myself and it works perfect.
