HP Pavilion X2 upgrade to 1709 - no sound

I eventually got my detachable laptop to upgrade to Fall Creator, and was very pleased, then noticed that when I received notifications there was no sound, checked all the usual suspects, volume, system sounds, drivers, etc even plugged a headset in, no sound. Using the HP troubleshooter, its first step was to take me through Windows troubleshooter, through the drivers uninstall, it even had me reset my BIOS. HP have a hardware tester built into the UEFI, and on following the instructions, sounds out of the speakers, indicating a pass, but still no sounds from W10. The last suggestion from HP was to update the BIOS, however knowing the system worked before the upgrade decided against that. I followed the roll-back instruction, and after noting the audio drivers in 1709, found the same drivers in the roll backed version, but the sound was working again - bizarre!

    :)

    1) Open the HP website > software and drivers > enter the computers serial or product number and operating system > view drivers > post URL link into the thread.

    2) Enter the computer specs in the "My Computer" section:

Check the link again as I just got it to open: How To Fill Out Your System Specs

The HP link did not display the UEFI diagnostics that you mentioned in post #1.
Did you download it to the computer or did you use create a flash drive?
Was this the UEFI diagnostic that you ran: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Official Site
There is an extensive or loop until failure test that will test most hardware.
And there is an interactive component test for the audio. Were you able to run this and get proper sound in the bios?

In the left lower corner search type control > open control panel > large or small icons > click troubleshooting > on the left pane click view all > run these troubleshooters:
    1) hardware and devices
    2) playing audio
    3) recording audio
    4) video playback

Report into the thread any fixes or items that were unable to be fixed.

It appears to be #2 sufficient privileges as I am able to view the webpage. This would be useful to you and to viewers so it may be useful to see what can be done so that you can view the webpage and update the computer specs.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    1) sfc /scannow
    2) dism /onlince /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    3) chkdsk /scan
    4) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    4) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)

    5) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...oot-in-windows

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com...indows-10.aspx

    6) shutdown /r (you will reboot the computer so that it is in clean boot)

Evaluate the sound in clean boot. Is it better, worse, or same?

Post images of the problems found using the troubleshooters.

@zbook, there may be some confusion here, as I have rolled back the system and currently have sound, I only don't have sound in 1709.

Ah so likely a driver issue.
If you upgrade again then see if you have sound in safe mode and or clean boot.
There is only one driver provided by HP and it's the same driver for windows 8.1 and windows 10.
See if you come up with an alternative on the Realtek website.
