Windows 10: HP Printer driver installation issue

Greetings,

I'm doing some tech support for a friend of the family, and I'm having trouble with installing her printer drivers. She has 2 printers hooked up to her wireless network, both HP products - that aren't being detected by the driver installer when it comes to that stage of the install process.

Not sure it matters, because we know the printers are working fine on other computers, but there is a M1212nf MFP and a P1606dn.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions as to what I can do. The lady I'm doing this for is insisting on tracking hours and paying me, and is busy enough that I have to work around her schedule, thus I want to have as many options as possible to try when I'm there on Wednesday.

printer sever properties

hp forum gave me the instructions to remove all the drivers for my hp printer and do a clean install of there

drivers but that did not help I have removed the hp drivers again.

when checked in printer properties/security and clicked on fax/ manage/ security. account unknown is there.

hp suggested that it could be a pc account issue or a network issue.

today I reset windows but the issue is still there.

Lee4803, if at some point you reset your modem or wireless router be sure you re-connect the printer to the network from the printer console. That was one issue I had but was able to correct. Also, I found HP's website very confusing, so if you have an
HP computer/printer make sure you have downloaded and installed the drivers for the wireless printer. My laptop has a separate driver software for wireless and USB connected printers. I found that some of the HP help sites would download and install the wrong
driver packets for my printer.

 

With her HP Printers should of come disc's
When I installed my HP Printer/Scanner I had to insert the Disc then let it run
It installed all the software and drivers.
Once drivers are installed you should then be able to go to the HP Folder and see HP update
There it should bring your software and drivers up to date

 

Try adding the printers manually in control panel. (Meaning without running the HP driver CD).

• Turn on your printer and make sure it is connected to the network.
• Open the Control Panel
• Click on Hardware and Sound.
• Double-click the Add a printer icon.
• Select "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer" and click Next.
• Let Windows scan for the printer and if detected, select the printer and click Next. If the printer is not listed, click "The printer that I want isn't listed" and skip to add printer by name or TCP/IP address.
• If you know the printer's name, choose "Select a shared printer by name" and enter the path to the printer. For example, with a network named "hope" and a printer named "hp", the network path would be: "\\hope\hp".

If you do not know the printer's path, but have the printers IP address, select "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname".
Click Next.
If during the install, Windows asks for drivers, point to the location of your printer drivers."

IME, I do this when a customer's printer has the same issue as yours and it (usually) works fine.

 

If it's older hardware, the drivers/software in the disc may not be Win10-compatible.
Better strategy is to download current package directly from HP site.
If there are no current, Win10-compatible drivers for that model, then it may be time to look for a new printer.
Printers themselves are pretty cheap these days, because the $$ is in the ink/toner.

It is the ink/toner that it is made up on
If her model is old and it recommends windows 8 drivers they will work
Microsoft drivers might even do

 

Thanks for the advice guys - I'd already tried the driver download from the website - doubt the CD will change much; using older software to do the same thing. The idea about finding the printer IP or name and having Windows scan the network for it that way sounds promising, though.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I'd rather have as many options as possible when I go over there on Wednesday.

Nothing to panic about this may happen some time. Just follow what i am saying. Uninstall your previous printer driver and re install your printer with updated driver from HP official website. It will definitely work our. If you still facing the same problem then Call to HP printer Technical support team at Toll Free Number 1-888-924-5460

If the wireless printer setup is complete and other devices can connect to the printer wirelessly, then go to the menu on the printer and go to Network WiFi, or print a Diagnostic page from the printer menu. It should tell you the printers IP Address. Then on a computer you can Add Printer, it should look for a wireless printer, if that doesn't work then it will offer you to type in it's IP address,
