Windows 10: HP Windows 10 Laptop Constantly Freezing/High Disk Use

as the title suggests, I am having major issues with my machine. I know there are probably 100s of questions like this a day & I've looked at a few of them. But those problems were a little to specific for those users. Anyhow, for the past couple of weeks, I've noticed my computer start to move a little slow than I am used to & lock up more frequently. My disk use is usually 95-100% and sits there for a few minutes until things calm down. I usually let time pass while it does this. I noticed that when I sort disk usage by highest usage, the items at the top hardly are using anything. They usually say 0.5-1.0~give or take Mb/s, unless I'm reading it wrong. It's mostly system processes by the way. More recently and the reason I finally came to this forum is that my computer started going completely unresponsive. Typically, I'll be on my Zoom meeting. Not pressing anything, and then I'll go to move my cursor and it won't move & notice my Disk Usage Light on my laptop is lit up. If the cursor unfreezes, I'll try to right click taskbar, then that freezes. Or i select task manager, but it never pops up. By this time, the whole OS is unresponsive to anything. crtl alt delete, crtl shift esc, etc. Nothing. Eventually, I either wait it out & restart computer. That'll work sometimes, but lately it's just been doing it over and over again. I cannot tolerate this because it cause me to miss a good portion of my studies in video class. Then, I'm behind and don't know what going on. If anyone could please give me a few options of what my be causing this and how I can resolve this.


I don't have much installed on my machine. And I haven't installed any application of my own doing recently. However, I installed Malwarebytes to scan and it was completely clean. Left it for a few days. Uninstalled it. Did syschek on cmd, nothing. All that I can think of that may be causing this is:


I use Ccleaner here and there, maybe it deleted an important registry file?

A specific Windows Update

Corrupted file?

Hdd problem?

I can't really think of much else, but I'm someone here can think of something.


A little about my machine:

HP I7-y029cy about 3 years old

Windows 10 2004

12gb DD4r

1tb HDD, plenty of space, I've used maybe <10%

Hp laptop screen won’t display except occasionally

- this suggests BIOS corruption or a hardware problem...
Whilst you might try flashing the BIOS (updating it may be necessary to run Win 10- witness your problem above), you also say you have access to it.
Do you hear any beeps or sounds?

Check the version of your BIOS vs that listed on HP's site for your laptop.

I'm also wondering if this might be related to your CMOS battery inside your laptop. (This should be a normal circular battery).
How to replace the CMOS battery
- but that's just a thought.

Sorry that's not how to create a bootable disk. All that disk is is data storage- as you just copied the files to it.

However, given the above, doing that isn't likely to help you I'm afraid.

 

laptop freez

• Was there any specific action done or application that was opened before the laptop freezes?

100% Disk with Newer HP Laptop and Windows 10

I have a relatively new HP laptop running Windows 10 that is showing 100% disk usage in Task Manager. I have tried all the commonly suggested fixes including:

• Restoring the system to factory settings and scrubbing the drives. (To ensure I didn't have a virus, malware, or corrupt driver)
• Installing all Windows updates
• Disabling windows search & smartfetch (Changed smartfetch in the registry to 0 so that it never runs)
• Disabling automatic windows updates
• Uninstalling One Drive
• Changing the size of data that can be cached to the hard disk based on the RAM
• Running diagnotics on the hardware
• Delaying start of all possible apps that don't need to run at start up

Is there some update / patch for Windows 10 that I can apply? Are there any other suggestions that someone can offer?
