Windows 10: HP ZBook 15v G5 - USB-C port never turns off ???

My new HP ZBook 15v G5 battery looses capacity over night. Turning off with PSU connected and 100% battery level, the battery level the following morning is down to 63%, 54% and similar. Also the battery does not last very long,before a recharge is required.

On this and previous laptops, I have used a SanDisk 960GB SSD in a USB-3 external enclosure. It normally remains permanently connected. With this new laptop with a USB-C port I bought a SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD - shaped like a M.5. It runs very hot unlike the 960GB 2.5" SSD.

I disconnected the 1TB disk, but not the 960GB disk and the following morning the battery is at 99%.

So is the 1TB disk or the ZBook faulty?
