HTC VIVE® today announced features and functionality of the new VIVE COSMOS including upcoming pricing and availability, and pre-order bonuses. Vive Cosmos is the latest premium PC-based virtual reality (VR) system created with a new level of accessibility and ease of use, designed to grow with users over time through a modular faceplate design that can change the functionality of the headset, such as the newly announced Vive Cosmos External Tracking Mod. Cosmos will launch globally on October 3 at $699 USD, with pre-orders starting September 12.

Technical Features

Vive Cosmos was built to adapt to the needs of VR customers with ease, versatility, and performance at the forefront. The all-new Vive tracking system offers a simplified setup that makes getting into VR faster and easier than ever before, with six camera sensors for wide and accurate inside-out tracking. Cosmos features a 2880 x 1700 combined pixel resolution—an 88% increase over the original Vive—delivering crystal-clear text and graphics. All-new LCD panels reduce the distance between pixels and combined with real RGB displays minimize screen-door effect.

A unique flip-up design allows users to jump between reality and virtual reality in seconds—all without disrupting VR journeys. Superior ergonomics and comfort allow for longer VR experiences and integrated on-ear headphones provide fully immersive sound. Cosmos also features completely redesigned controllers that maximize functionality within VR and offer extended comfort during long play sessions. Cosmos is also compatible with the Vive Wireless Adapter for those who want to enjoy moving in VR without being tethered.

First ‘Mod’ Announced

With a modular faceplate design, Vive Cosmos is the most versatile premium VR headset yet, designed with upcoming accessories to change the functionality of the headset and offer customers the ability for their headset to grow with them over time. The first official “mod”, announced today, is the Vive Cosmos External Tracking Mod for customers that want to continue to use their existing Lighthouse base stations for tracking scenarios, but also take advantage of the superior performance of Vive Cosmos. HTC Vive Pro Eye, NVIDIA RTX and ZeroLight Push State of the Art in VR

Whether you’re building a sleek virtual car buying experience or just want to unwind by taking a few swings of the bat, you’ll want to check out the new HTC Vive Pro Eye headset.Demonstrating VR’s enormous potential for professional applications and games, HTC VIVE is showing off the eye-tracking capabilities of their new headset powered by NVIDIA RTX GPUs at CES in Las Vegas at the Wynn hotel’s Alsace room.

Visitors to HTC’s booth can experience eye-tracking on the show floor for themselves with ZeroLight virtual auto showroom software and MLB Home Run Derby VR.

These demos not only make VR’s potential for creative professionals and gamers clear, it’s yet another demonstration of how NVIDIA GPUs are propelling VR forward.

Eye tracking combined with a technique called foveated rendering can be used to craft more lifelike VR experiences. The Vive Pro Eye takes advantage of foveated rendering through NVIDIA’s VRWorks Variable Rate Shading (VRS) to tailor the quality of a rendered image to where the user eyes are focused.

VRS is a new rendering feature of the NVIDIA RTX architecture, which applies more GPU shading horsepower to where it will have the most impact, while reducing horsepower to the rest of the image.

This allows for more efficient use of a GPU’s processing power: It no longer needs to render every part of the scene at the same rate.

ZeroLight, powered by a custom build of the Unity graphics engine, is the premier virtual environment for auto showrooms, used by automakers to help customers configure their cars and see the results in incredible detail.

ZeroLight has implemented NVIDIA VRS technology, combined with eye tracking on the new HTC Vive Pro Eye, to deliver higher image quality while maintaining performance. The result is a more immersive virtual experience.

The Vive Pro Eye will also feature a crisp 2880×1600 resolution, which gives it a pixel count that’s nearly 80 percent higher than the original Vive.

This increased resolution will make games look better than ever and create more immersive gameplay experiences.

Today at a press event in San Francisco, HTC Vive announced a premium virtual reality experience for the enterprise market, including a new platform, new hardware, and new software available specifically for commercial use. This launch reinforces Vive’s increased commitment to bringing best-in-class design and software expertise—paired with the world’s best VR hardware—to businesses of all sizes. With this complete solution powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 Mobile VR Platform the enterprise market can now create, collaborate, and engage in new and effective ways with employees and customers alike. Shadow VR all-in-one HMD is equipped with a Snapdragon 835 Mobile VR Platform and Fresnel ultra-thin optical lens, using a self-developed holographic 3D UI Blue Cat and 6 degrees of freedom (DoF) capabilities. A 2K (2560×1440) HD display brings users a clearer and more realistic picture experience and the stereo dual-speaker sound effect makes the experience more immersive. HTC and Valve today announced their 2016 CES Best of Show winning VR system is available now for pre order with first shipments targeted to begin on Tuesday, April 5th. A complete VR solution, Vive includes two wireless VR controllers, room scale movement, a full 360° of tracking, and an HMD featuring a built-in camera to create what many critics are calling the most convincing VR experience launching this year.

In addition to the VR system, and for a limited time, those who pre order will also receive a free copy of three new VR titles: Tilt Brush from Google, Fantastic Contraption from Northway and Radial Games, and Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives from Owlchemy Labs.
