Windows 10: Hundreds of photos lost! Help, please!

I can't find hundreds of photos that I "named" numerically 1 - 353, etc. I search everywhere but all sorts of things pop up that happen to have those numbers in them. This is making me crazy as I've spent tons of time collecting these images and I have hundreds more to go. Gallery, I think, has some, if not all, of them but they don't tell me what the name of the photo is so I'm not sure. All I want to do is find the missing photos and move them to a dedicated folder. I hate Gallery as it is or seems to be a default app and unless I remember to change from Gallery to the folder my pictur

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

Do let us know what exactly happens when you try to delete the photos in File Explorer?

Step 1: I recommend you to check if there are any updates for photos app in Windows Store. If found try to update the app and check with the status of this issue.

Steps:

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.

Photos are lost after an update

I understand your inconvenience. We will assist you to resolve this issue.

Before we proceed, we would like to know which updates got installed.

I would like to inform you that the files and programs installed on your computer will not get effected, when you upgrade to Windows 10.

I suggest you to check in Recycle bin once. If the photos are accidently deleted.

If you are unable to find the photos in Recycle bin, type the name of the photo or folder in search box and check.

If you are still unable to find the photos, I suggest you perform System Restore on your computer.
