HWMonitor Vs Core temp Which one to Download for PC Temperature

    Hi!
I want to monitor my CPU temperature on my desktop. While searching online i found HWMonitor and CoreTemp top of the list. But i want to know which one is best suited to check CPU temp.
when i read comments on these software, i found that sometimes they provide wrong readings. and another thing is malware files which are attached with these apps.
so guide me as i want your opinion which is the best CPU temp monitor which can provide accurate real time readings.
If there is any other monitoring tool which you think is more suited for temp monitoring, please tell me.

    :)

my computer randomly shuts off when playing games

I might experiment to see if it might be suddenly overheating.

I'd install something to show the temperature, Core Temp.

Maybe open power options and advanced power settings ... processor max speed to 99% which should turn off any turbo boost & of course lower heating.

There is a program CPUID HWmonitor Shows temp and cores and voltages & things. Its helpful when have overheating issues sometimes so you get ideas what maybe to adjust. Provided you have a friendly bios/setup.

HW Monitor is much more comprehensive than Coretemp. All SW relies on BIOS, sensors and drivers so errors are always possible. To get them malware free download only from their respective developers or Major Geeks site. MG even warns if anything additional may come with SW they recommend.
    HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID
    Core Temp

I often use at least 2 programs like that and also some from computer's or parts manufacturers, Like Ryzen Master, Asus utilities. MSI Afterburner for more detailed settings, if in any doubt about sensor reading accuracy.

I got no adds with HWMonitor when downloaded from their site.
Oh. I forgot to mention HWInfo: HWiNFO - Download but it doesn't have on screen display overlay although it's most comprehensive of all and also available as portable.

Yes, they are not large but do have a look at HW Info too:

what about the difference in the their values which they give. Like sometime there is a 10 degree Celsius difference between HWMonitor and CoreTemp.

I would put HWMonitor in front as more accurate. They may be showing values from different sensors. For modern CPUs, for instance, there's 2 sensors in CPU itself, Core temperatures (some have for every core separately and Package temperature that's usually higher than core temps and is read from sensor behind the CPU. HWInfo may give you both.

They should all report exactly the same but some programs apply different offsets to the figure reported by the sensors I believe. I use TPFanControl to set fan speed on my ThinkPad and in that you can manually define the offset for the various sensors to get the actual temperature. I adjusted them to match HWiNFO.

I find HWiNFO the most accurate and comprehensive (it shows more sensors than Aida64 or HWMonitor).

Speccy for some reason seems to indicate overly high CPU temps - they are either misnaming a sensor or applying wrong offset. It might (probably does) depend on your system though. If you try a few and one is out by 5 or 10° compared to the others you should probably ignore it.

    Hi,
HWMonitor will not show each core temperature on your taskbar which makes it far easier to see them *Smile

I use 8GadgetPack and Core Temp to keep a readout on my PCs at all times. Compact, lightweight memory and resource footprint. Works like a charm. Looks like this:

PLMK if you need pointers on where to find this stuff, how to configure & install, etc. Don't want to bother you if you aren't interested. I'm good, either way!
