  1. Hyper-V VM running WinPE cannot acquire DHCP address

We are setting up the MDT to image Windows 11 machines. I have a Windows Server 2016 physical host running MDT v6.3.8456.1000, Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit v10.1.22621.1 and Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit Windows Preinstallation Environment Add-ons v10.1.22621.1. I have installed Windows Deployment Services on the machine and Windows Update says machine is up to date. I also installed Hyper-V on this machine with the default Network switch.I have created the LiteTouch boot image and added to WDS.When I boot a Gen2 Hyper-V virtual machine to the network, it gets a DHCP addres

    :)

  2. Hyper-V + WSL: Hyper-V VMs cannot get a dhcp address from the default switch. WSL works fine.

    Hi everyone,

I am currently using Windows Enteprise10 20H2 Version fully updated as well. I have WSL, Hyper-V enabled and installed. I have also docker installed. Now. I have 3 WSL distros
    - Ubuntu 20.04 WSL 1
    - Docker_bla WSL 2
    - Docker bla WSL 2

    They all work fine.

I would like to utilize Hyper-V for virtualization and creating linux VMs though and things got weird really fast.

I have tried creating a numerous amount of linux VMs (latest red hat, latest ubuntu server and desktop editions) however the machines exhibit erratic connectivity issues. Let me explain. I use the default Switch that was created for simple internet connections (I don't need anything else for now) for all of those VMs which should work out of the box. I'm not using Hyper-V on a Server so that exists. When I launch the VM it never gets an IP address. The switch shows it is connected with OK but no IP is assigned "sometimes". I tried disabling/reenabling the adapter of the vSwitch and for a few seconds they got an IP address but then it got lost. So no DHCP for the machines.

    Can anyone advise?

    Thank you kindly

Not able to connect to Ubuntu VM instance running in Hyper-V on Windows 11

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Advisor, and I'll do my best to help you.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the Hyper-V authorization policies on your computer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check your Hyper-V authorization policies: Open the Local Group Policy Editor by pressing Win+R on your keyboard, typing "gpedit.msc", and pressing Enter. Navigate to "Computer Configuration" -> "Windows Components" -> "Hyper-V". Check if the policies "Hyper-V Administrators" and "Hyper-V Service" are configured correctly.

Make sure you have the necessary permissions: Ensure that you are logged in as an administrator account or a user with Hyper-V administrator privileges.

Restart the Hyper-V service: Open the Services window by pressing Win+R on your keyboard, typing "services.msc", and pressing Enter. Find the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service, right-click it, and select "Restart".

Check the VM's configuration: Make sure that the VM is still properly configured in Hyper-V Manager, and that it hasn't been accidentally deleted or removed from the list of VMs.

Reinstall Hyper-V: If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Hyper-V. You can do this by going to "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control Panel, unchecking the box next to Hyper-V, restarting your computer, and then checking the box again and restarting again.

If none of these steps work, you may need to contact your IT administrator or seek further assistance from Microsoft support.
