Windows 10: Hyper-V Win 10 VM does not have internet access

I am trying to rehost a Windows 10 32-bit physical PC as a Hyper-V VM on my new-ish WIndows 11 64-bit PC. The PLC automation software I'm using absolutely requires internet connectivity. I can run the VM i've built, but I cannot get internet access to it.

No Internet in Hyper-V VM's

Hi, I have Windows 10 Enterprise and just added Hyper-V. I had 3 VM's on VMware Player and deleted and uninstalled Player. I have 3 Vm's on Hyper-V. My problem is I get no Internet on my Vm's. I am new to Hyper-V and would like to know how to connect these
to the internet. I have "Virtual switch (automatic)" selected. They show no connections available in the VM's. How do I connect to the internet? (I'm on wifi.) I'm attaching a screenshot. Thanks

 

Blocking internet access for VW in HYPER-V.

I want to completely block internet access to all applications on a virtual machine running in Hyper-V (W). Is it enough to select "network adapter not connected" in Hyper-V manager settings? In other words, if I select "network adapter not connected "in Hyper-V setting will access to the internet will be COMPLETELY blocked to all apps on a VM including the operating system running on the VM?

 

How do I get network and internet access to a Hyper-V VM?

I've been trying to create a Hyper-V VM server on my computer. The server runs Ubuntu Server. I want it to have a have a connection to the internet and be accessible to the local network. I have some experience with virtual machines but have never gone far into the weeds of networking. I've been able to use internet in VMs before with QEMU for Windows and am trying to go to Hyper-V because I was having trouble getting whpx to work with QEMU and, well, on Windows, Hyper-V is the official hypervisor.

The way I currently have it, I have a special virtual switch that is configured as internal and has VLAN enabled. The vm is connected to this and also has VLAN enabled for it's adapter. This is how I've seen it done in multiple blog posts on the subject. I have my wifi adapter configured so that it shares its connection with the virtual switch adapter. The problem is that 1. When I start up the vm, it says something about waiting for the network to be configured which takes ~2 min to complete. This may be normal but I'm a bit dubious. On my previous setup (more on that below), it did not take this long to do this and I never noticed this step in the load. 2. Although the little 'doing this now' line says that there is no timeout time, the process eventually completes but on logon to the server via the hyper-v 'connect' terminal, the server does not give an ip address (which it did in my previous setup). 3. The vm has no internet connection. No command that requires an internet connection works. 4 or 0. I control panel, in the info window for the adapter to the vm's switch, it says that it has "no network connection" and "no internet connection" in spite of the sharing.

Previously, I just used the default virtual switch and had not yet meddled with the internet sharing. There, the loading process didn't take as long and when I logged on, the info printed included an ip address however, 1. This ip address was non-existent to the host, 2. Out of multiple commands I found online that I tried to find the ip of the vm, although the vm had a mac address, it seemed like it didn't have an ip address as one was never listed for the vm where it should have been, 3. Simply, the vm didn't have internet.

I also dabbled with having the switch be "external" but it was messy and I don't remember being able to connect to the vm this way or get internet. I could have set it up wrong though. I don't really fully understand what an "external virtual switch" means.

It's really hard to diagnose anything on the guest end as even basic network utilities need to be installed with an internet connection.

I tried to upload some screen shots of my settings for the switch as well as how I have the networks set up and the sharing to show how I'm not getting "network access" on the virtual switch but they just turned into "image not found".

System info: Windows 10.0.19044 x64, using a usb wifi antenna for internet. Don't know how to get version of hyper-v.
