Windows 10: Hyperlink in pdf opening other pdf file in chrome browser rather than in adobe viewer

I have created 4 ms-word files ms-office 365 which has some data, it contains hyperlinks to other ms-word file i.e file 1 has hyperlink which opens file 2 etc.. this works correctly when used these files as ms-word doc. i.e if click on hyperlink it opens other file as ms-word and not in any browser.

to share to others i have converted all 4 word files to pdf. File --> save as pdf also selected check mark option 'Create bookmarks using word bookmarks' If i double click on pdf file it is opening as pdf file in Adobe reader but when i clicked on any hyperlink it opens other pdf in chrome browser and not in adode reader. hyperlink in same file properly refers to the specific point in same file.

What should i do so that when clicked on hyperlink it will open other pdf in Adobe reader and not in browser ?

things i have done,

1] I changed the file name extension to .pdf from .docx in hyperlink field code in ms-word file.

2] Default app for .pdf is adobe reader in window 10.

3] I cannot see chrome adobe extension in Google chrome which i could have disabled to see if the problem is getting solved or not.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

• Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
• Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?

Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.



Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.



To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:

• Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
• Click on Preferences and select Internet.
• Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.

Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
Turn off Internet Explorer,
enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Not Letting Other PDF Viewers to Open PDF File


A friend of mine called me asking for help converting an important document from a PDF to a DOC. I go to a website to convert the PDF and when I open it it gives me this...

. I then go to open the PDF in Edge and Firefox (they are the only other PDF viewers I have other than Adobe) and they give me these messages...



. But when I open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, it shows the document normally. It only opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I don't know what was done to the file before it was given to me and I have tried printing it to a PDF and opening it but it gives me the same error. Does anyone have any ideas?

Ok, here's what you have to do.

For each browser you use, you need to stop that particular browser opening pdf's itself.
When you've done that, the pdf will open in your default reader.

Now different pdf readers add plugins to browsers, so the instructions for each situation may differ.

N.B. each time you change the default reader this will probably be reset.
