Windows 10: I accidentally administratively locked desktop Microsoft login

While on the Microsoft website there's two boxes that say find or locked. I went to touch find nd accidentally hit lock. So now I am locked out of my desktop Microsoft account. How do I administratively unlock it?

   • You mentioned that you have a laptop as well. If you're signed in as an administrator on that laptop, you can use it to remotely unlock your desktop.
     
2. Connect to the Internet:
   
   • Make sure both your locked desktop and the laptop you're using to unlock it are connected to the internet.
     
3. Microsoft Account:
   
   • On your laptop, go to account.microsoft.com and sign in with the same Microsoft account that you used on the locked desktop.
     
4. Find My Device:
   
   • Navigate to the "Find My Device" section, similar to what you did to lock the device.
     
5. Unlock Your Desktop:
   
   • From the "Find My Device" settings, you should see your locked desktop listed.
     
   • There should be an option to unlock the device. Follow the instructions to unlock it.
     
6. Reboot the Desktop:
   
   • After unlocking the desktop from the Microsoft account settings, reboot the desktop and try signing in.
     
7. Re-Register the Desktop:
   
   • If you've removed your desktop from your devices list, you might need to re-register it after you regain access. You can do this from your Microsoft account settings.

I suggest you to perform Safe Mode with Networking and then try to change the password.

Method 1: Safe mode.

Please follow below steps:

    Click on power button at left bottom corner, press and hold
    Shift key and click on Restart.
    
  • 
    Click on Troubleshoot.
    
  • 
    Click on Advanced options.
    
  • 
    Click on Startup Settings.
    
  • 
    Click on Restart.
    
  • 
    Login to Microsoft Account and create a new administrator account.
    

If you’re not able to login using Microsoft account then refer to below steps and check if it helps.

Method 2:
Activate Inbuilt Administrator Account.

Follow the below steps:

    Click on power button at left bottom corner, press and hold
    Shift key and click on Restart.
    
  • 
    Click on Troubleshoot.
    
  • 
    Click on Advanced options.
    
  • 
    Click on Command Prompt and enter following command.
    
    net user Administrator /active:yes
    

Now reboot your system and login to inbuilt admin account and try to reset password for other account. Once you reset password login to other account and to deactivate inbuilt admin account enter following command in elevated command prompt.

net user Administrator /active:no

Lock vs Login screen screenshot

Hi Josey -

Thanks for the quick reply. While your suggestion does change the sign in process, it doesn't address the differing screenshot question. Following the steps doesn't make the login screenshot the same as the Lock screenshot. As I mentioned, I can't even find the screenshots being used for both screens.

Still looking a solution to this. Open to any other suggestions you might have to the problem. Thanks!
