I accidentally dropped a very large folder in System Volume Information folder.

Folder is around 8 TB of files that was accidentally move inside System volume information, I don't have an extra 8 TB HDD to copy the files to and delete the folder, is there a way to move out of System volume information?

I already told ownership of the folder and was able to open it , but still can't seem to move the folder.

    :)

  2. Removing errant files in the "System Volume Information" folder under Windows 10.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your response.

I suggest you to first stop Volume Shadow Copy service and try to remove the files and check. Follow the steps provided below:

Step 1: Stop Volume Shadow Copy service

    • Press Windows logo Key + R key.

      Stop.
Now, take ownership of the System volume Information folder and then try to delete its contents.

    Step 2: File permissions.

    • Right click on System volume Information folder.
    • Select Properties.
    • Go to Security tab.

  3. Is $Recycle.Bin and System Volume Information folders safe?

Recently, I see some strange folders named "$Recycle.Bin" and "System Volume Information" which are attributed
hidden. When I search the internet for these, I became literally confused! Some say, it is a virus/malware (named
Recycler) while others speak of this being a system file.

    Notifications:

    • When I tried to delete $Recycle.Bin folder, it requires the administrative power, and if granted, gets deleted. But in a second, it also gets replaced with a new folder just with the same name. So literally, I am not able to remove this
      folder.
    • When I tried to open the System Volume Information folder, It shows a pop-up displaying access denied ...
    • When I tried to delete the System Volume Information folder, it doesn't happen, and displays the same access denied information.
    • The two folders appears on every partitions available.
If these are some kind of malware, why is my Mcafee Internet Security unable to detect it?

I accidentally dropped a very large folder in System Volume Information folder.

Move folder from external drive "System Volume Information"

I ACCIDENTALLY (I own my mistake) moved a large folder (My Data) from "E:\" into the "E:\

System Volume Information\." where "E:\" is my local external hard drive. To try to undo this, I simple try (Logged in as Administrator)

    >move "E:\System Volume Information\My Data" E:\."

but I receive the error "Access is denied.". I try

    >icacls "C:\system volume information" /grant Administrator:F

    >icacls "C:\system volume information" /grant Administrator:F /t.

These command executes and I retry the "move" command again:

    >move "E:\System Volume Information\My Data\." E:\."

but I get the "Access is denied" error again. How can I undo my mistake of moving "E:\My Data" into the "E:\System Volume Information"?

    (ie.

    >move "E:\System Volume Information\My Data\." E:\."

    ).

    Thank you for your assistance!
