Two Documents folders but no Desktop folder

    Hi Martin,

    Thank you for that information..

    1

In the registry, it does not matter if the path to the users folder is shown or if %USERPROFILE%\ is used, they would be the same folder, but %USERPROFILE%\ is actually better.

    2

    Language:

If you create a new folder in this process, you can use your language or English, provided you use the same name for the folder in the registry.

    3

So, the Desktop is not merged into the Documents folder, the Documents folder is merged into the Desktop folder

Please disregard the steps above, here are the new steps.

    4

In File Explorer, in your user folder, right click and create a new folder and name it Documents.

    Close File Explorer

    5

    Open the Registry Editor again.

    6

Double click {F42EE2D3-909F-4907-8871-4C22FC0BF756}, set its Value Data to this and click OK

    %USERPROFILE%\Documents

    7

Double click Personal, set its Value Data to this and click OK

    %USERPROFILE%\Documents

    8

Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC

    9

That will have separated the two folders, you may need to manually move files from the Desktop into the Documents folder

  3. Accidental merge of desktop folder with User folder

hello, I was moving my user folder from my SSD to my HDD, I first started with the desktop folder but decided to move it back, I ended up merging my user and desktop file.

I also restarted the computer after the error and all of the shortcuts on the desktop don't work anymore as well and show a planet icon

I Have tried to follow the answer to this question, but it didn't work:

Accidentally merged User and Documents folders

    Hello,

I was moving some files around on my hard drive and I accidentally merged my User folder with my Documents folder. So in my C:\User directory instead of seeing C:\Users\MyName I see C:\Users\Documents. Seen below:

I accidentally merged Desktop folder and Documents folder 915ae32b-3849-4b55-b9ff-d1b6369f0eed?upload=true.png

I have looked through a few different forums on how to fix my mistake, but I am not 100% sure on how to fix it. I believe that I need to make a change in the registry because the data field for "Personal" is %USERPROFILE% and not %USERPROFILE%\Documents.

Can anyone help me with some steps that I can follow so I can resolve my mistake? I don't want to mess up the registry and hurt my machine. Thanks in advance!
