    .bak file

A .bak file is a backup copy of a file. It will open with whatever application created the original file.

    .bak file

    Hi Jan

A .bak file is a generic file extension, it can be a backup of any type of file on your system . . .

So opening that file will depend on what type of that file was before the file extension was changed to .bak

Is there another file extension on that file as well as the .bak, like xxxxxxxx.xxx.bak if so, remove the .bak and you should be able to open that file normally

Otherwise, do you know what type of file that was previously, where is that file located and what is the name of that file?

  4. I accidentaly change application to open .bak file

How do I remove a .bak file from "Recent"?

    Ramesh,

IT WORKED.....IT WORKED!!!! Just in case, I rebooted....and they're still gone....hurray! It also changed my desktop wallpaper to a random photo from my photo program, but that was easy enough to change back.

Any idea why I couldn't remove the two .bak files from the "Recent" list? Additionally, how did they get there in the first place? I didn't back-up the cropped photo I used for the coffee mug, so I'm a bit bewildered.

Another thing I noticed is that after performing the steps you suggested, no files are showing under "Recent", even though I just opened (after the reboot) a file in both Word and Excel.

    Thoughts?
