Windows 10: I am locked out of my windows 11 laptop and a every attempt to change pin goes in a circle

Any attempt to change my PIN returns “something went wrong “ and “we weren’t able to change your PIN”. Then it just goes back to login screen and starts all over. This is insane. I can’t use my own computer.

May I ask if you forgot you PIN that you use to log into your laptop?

If you'd like to reset the laptop, follow the instructions below:

1. Access the Recovery Environment:
   
   • Start your laptop and as soon as it begins to power up, repeatedly press the F11 key (this key might vary depending on the manufacturer; consult your laptop's manual if F11 does not work). This should bring you to the Windows Recovery Environment.
     
2. Navigate to Troubleshoot Options:
   
   • In the Windows Recovery Environment, select "Troubleshoot" from the options provided.
     
3. Reset Your PC:
   
   • Under the "Troubleshoot" menu, you will find an option to "Reset this PC". Select this option.
     
4. Choose to Remove Everything:
   
   • You will be given two options: "Keep my files" and "Remove everything". Since you are locked out, select "Remove everything". This will remove all personal files, apps, and settings.
     
5. Confirm the Reset:
   
   • Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm your choice and start the reset process. The laptop will restart and begin the resetting process, which can take some time.
     
6. Set Up Your Laptop:
   
   • Once the reset is complete, you will need to set up Windows again as if it were a new device. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your settings.

How do I change the PIN on my laptop after too many attempts. Just says restart device - gives me the code A1B2C3 and when I enter that it goes back to restart device.

1. What is the error that you are getting after entering the PIN?
2. Is there any other administrator user account on the laptop?
3. Are you entering the correct PIN?

If you have signed in with your Microsoft Account, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned in
How to recover your PIN and password from the lock screen and check if this helps.

If you are not able to recover your PIN or password, then the only way to login to your laptop is to do a
Custom Installation of Windows, in which you will lose all your applications; however, your user data like pictures, videos, documents, etc., will be saved in Windows.old
folder.
