    Can I recover an older recording from snipping tool?

    Hello!

    I recorded a video using the Windows 11 snipping tool. I accidentally closed the preview before I could save it a few days ago, and I haven't been able to recover video. I can recover videos that were recorded on the same day (using LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState), but not videos that are a few days old.



    I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to recover older videos that were not saved.

    I understand your concern. To retrieve your unsaved video from the Snipping Tool, you can try checking the TempState folder. This folder is where the Snipping Tool often saves temporary files. You can access it by pressing the Windows key + R, and then typing this into the Run dialog:

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState

    Hopefully, you'll find your recording there. If not, feel free to let me know, and we can explore other options to help you recover it.

    I'm sorry to hear to you're experiencing this issue. Please try these steps to recover the unsaved recording from snipping tool. Press Windows + R to open the Run command window. Copy-paste this path: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState and press Enter. It should open the Recordings folder from the snipping tool. Let me know if this works.
