Windows 10: I am setting up a new laptop and I am forced to sign up for a Microsoft account

Split from this thread. It's all very well once you have an account and are in! I am setting up a new laptop and there is absolutely no way around it. I am forced to sign up for a Microsoft Account. We use Google Workspace. I don't want a Microsoft account and can't do any of what you suggest until I make an account first.

Updated laptop and now being forced to sign into an old Microsoft account which uses an old email which I can't access anymore the sign in screen doesn't give me the option to change to my new Microsoft account details and I can't log on to my laptop

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

• Is this the only account on the computer?
• Was this account upgraded from previous version of Windows?

It looks like you are using a local account. I suggest you follow these steps:

• Click on search in taskbar and type account.
• Click on Accounts.
• Now, under Your account, click on Sign in with Microsoft account instead.
• Enter your Local account password for confirmation and then follow the screen instruction.
• Enter User name credentials for your the new Microsoft account and click OK.

Set up new laptop without Microsoft Account

Correct, you would pick up at step 17 in the tutorial below to set up the new laptop if not already, and do step 24 to set up a local account. It will be an administrator account by default when created during setup.

You can then use option 1 in the tutorial below to set up netplwiz to automatically sign in to your account at startup.

In addition, you may also want to turn off require sign-in on wakeup.
