Bitlocker not asking for password set up

I have the same problem as David with bitlocker set-up not asking me for a password. Following the instructions in the article suggested by Jennifer does not help as it assumes that I will be prompted to enter a password - the set up skips that step going
straight to the options for saving the recovery key. Once (supposedly) encrypted, I can restart my computer without having to enter anything apart from my microsoft password so I do not have any additional security at all.

 

Bitlocker surprise BS

Hi. Had a laptop for about 2 years with windows 10. I only set up an account because I had to during set u I never set up or was aware of Bitlocker being on there. (I would have turned it off if I knew about it) the Laptop got soaked and destroyed. I saved and removed the hard drive but when I try to read it on another PC to recover my files it says it needs the Bitlocker recovery key. I log onto my old account associated with my old laptop and there are no devices or Bitlocker keys listed. Is there any way I can access my old drive?? I tried using some things I found online using the command prompt, but the "recovery password" it lists is not 48 characters and is half alphabet so it's no good. Please help, I'm a writer and I have 1500 pages on there I need back.

I have managed to solve the issue thanks to the terrific guys here on these forums.

For anyone else who is ever in the same boat, step 5 on this page is what you need to do. As it states, you need to unencrypt your hard-drive, then configure the settings in step 5, and then encrypt your drive again.

Now it asks me for a Bitlocker pin number whenever I start-up my computer.

I have enjoyed far more knowledgeable folk and superior support here than I have ever seen on Microsoft's lousy forums where their own staff have little idea about the products they supposedly specialise in. It's a real pity that, now that we are even into version 10 of Windows, even the simplest of steps is made into a headache that can take 10+ hours to resolve. For the life of me, I don't know why Bitlocker can't just ask you "would you like to set-up a password when you start-up your computer?" instead of having to go into the deeper recesses of the operating system's configuration options and taking 25 steps to be able to so.
