Windows 10: I am trying to connect my son's new laptop to our existing Microsoft Family Safety account...

Hi I am trying to connect my son's new laptop computer to our existing Family Safety account but it isn't recognizing the serial number of the new Lenovo Laptop. I would like to set use limits and times for when it can be used but am unable to connect it. Can you help please?

Connect son's computer with Microsoft Family Safety

Hello, my son got his own computer. How do we connect the computer to Microsoft Family Safety? The main account will be his own account (I do not want to create my account on his computer). Is it possible to still connect it to Microsoft Family Safety that I manage, or it is not possible unless the admin account on my son's computer is mine? If it is impossible, is there still a way to limit his exposure to mature content? Thank you,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble adding your son to your family safety group. The error code you provided is not familiar to me. However, according to Microsoft Support, you can try the following steps to fix the issue:

• Make sure that your son’s account is a child account and not an adult account.
  
• Check if your son’s account is already part of another family group. If it is, then you need to remove it from that group first before adding it to your family group.
  
  - let him login to family.microsoft.com to check if he belongs to a family group or not
  
• Try adding your son’s account again after a few hours or days.

Connect son's computer with Microsoft Family Safety

Hi, I'm Elise, a fellow user like yourself and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

If you son is using his own Microsoft account on his own PC, then you can still connect this to Microsoft Family.

Go to family.microsoft.com.

Sign into your Family Safety account.

Click Add a family member.

Enter family member’s phone number or email address and click Next.

To get the most benefit of the features, you are correct you should add yourself as the admin user on his PC, and then set his account as a standard user.

This will stop him being able to bypass the family safety restrictions.
