I am trying to setup my child new laptop 10yo account and i get the following error: Something's not working It's not you, it's us.

Child Account Get Greyed Out

Thanks for the suggestion, but I did the following instead.

I have another laptop, 2 weeks old, with Windows 10 Home on it.

On that one, I tried the same steps with the child account, and got the exact same results.

 

Can a local user be changed to a child account?

I'm trying to see if there's a way to change a local account (standard user) to a child account so it can be managed in the Microsoft Family?

I tried to follow the steps here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...1-c8f8cca1d52f

but there's no option for "family and other users".

They do not have Microsoft accounts. Do I need to basically create a new child account at Windows setup?

Any assistance appreciated.

 

It's not you. It's us when trying to give consent to child account.

I bought a new laptop and accidentally choose the wrong date so it thought is was a child and I was prompted with consent screen. And following through the steps form this forms page. I tried everything from creating microsoft family , adding the child account and even tried giving consent to the account but it still says It's not you It's us. Spending 100's of $ worth of money and buying and new laptop when trying to setup you realise your simple mistake won't even let you open your laptop and microsoft is getting away from this without a proper error message but a very simple very frustrating "It's not you it's us"
