Windows 10: I am unable to log into Windows HP laptop, as can’t type any words into password field

Unable to type in letter password on HP laptop, even when putting up on-screen keyboard nothing types onto the screen.

Windows 10 Login screen. Unable to type "#" in password field

So this struck me today after I updated to windows 10 that you cannot type in the '#' symbol in the password field on the login screen. It worked before in windows 8, it lets me type it and log in everywhere else, but I guess MS does not want me to use
a secure password. Yaay. Now I'm unable to use the computer and I'm not gonna change my password because of this... Reinstalling the system.

Are you unable to just type in this fields or are these fields greyed out?

I would suggest you to first check if install all the latest updates available through Windows updates to make sure that you have all the patches. If you have already done this, then I would suggest try these steps and check if it

Unable to log into laptop after changing password.

We understand how difficult it could be and we appreciate the time and effort that you have taken to work this issue. However, in order to get clarity, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

1. Were you using the “Old email (account) address” regardless of not using laptop?
   
2. Are both the email addresses linked?
   
3. Could you please let us know, where exactly you get prompt for the password for the “Old email address” in the desktop?
   
4. What is the exact error message you get when you try to log in to laptop?
   
5. Does your desktop has two user profiles?
   

In the meantime, we would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check.



You would need to have internet connection in laptop, so that the password change could get updated and it seems that the laptop is not connected to the internet, we would suggest you to connect Ethernet cable to laptop and then
try logging in to the laptop with the new password for the old email address.
