  1. I am unable to login as local user with admin rights after Windows Update

Windows 10 Pro, Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045. Dell Vostro 7590 LaptopI received 3 Windows Updates KB5001716, KB5031356, KB5031224 on October 11. Prior to that, I would always log into my laptop as local user. After Windows update, when I login that same way, it says "The user name or password is incorrect. Try again." In the past, if I got that message, I would disconnect from the internet and login. I tried disconnecting from the internet but I get a message saying "We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again later." I also tried logging in with .\

  2. I am unable to login as local user with admin rights after Windows Update

Windows 10 Pro, Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045. Dell Vostro 7590 Laptop

I received 3 Windows Updates (KB5001716, KB5031356, KB5031224) on October 11. Please check your network and try again later." I also tried logging in with .\ preceding my username and I get the message that the user name or password is incorrect." The only way I can now login is connected to the internet with the Active Directory email and password provided to me by my employer. The problem with this is that I do not have Administrator access to my machine and I have lost access to all of the Documents, Pictures, settings, etc. from my local user account. I cannot do anything without Administrator access to the machine. My local user account had Administrator access.

    Things I have tried:

    • Working with MS support. The support agent said "as this PC lost admin right, would be necessary to reset the system" and "there is a "serious error in the permissions system of Windows, that's why it's necessary to reset". He also said "as this profile didn't have admin right before the update, it changed the authentication protocols with the update, so the profile can't authenticate because the entire system doesn't have an admin profile." I think he was referring to my work profile. My local profile had admin rights. His final suggestion was to put the hard drive in another computer that has admin rights.
    • Mucking with the BIOS
    • Starting in Safe Mode - it asked me for some Bitlocker key. I put in the key and it said it was invalid.
    • Looking for options in Settings==>Accounts to log in as local user. The setting no longer exists.
I have spent days trying to figure this out.

    admin rights keep disappearing!?!!

    Hi guys,

I am actually having a problem at work that our IT department hasn't been able to figure out. I am supposed to be a member of the admin group. We are on a domain. The problem is that everytime I reboot the computer I loose my admin rights(no longer in the administrator group) and just become a normal user again. I have tried googling this and didn't get to many results.
I believe IT is just giving me local admin rights, not admin rights for the whole domain.

    Any suggestions?

EDIT: It is on Windows XP Pro.

  4. I am unable to login as local user with admin rights after Windows Update

Local user disappeared frin login options after upgrade

    Hi Zoee,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I was unable to fix the issue. Here are my steps:

    • I've uninstalled the last 3 updates (the ones from september):
      • however, they keep getting reinstalled:

I am unable to login as local user with admin rights after Windows Update f528a5b8-45e7-4aef-a9f2-9bf99fd6c850?upload=true.png

    • I've added two new users: one from the GUI, the other as you suggested in step 2:
      • They are listed under users;
    • I've also booted in safe mode just to check.
I still have no way to login other than with the main account. No local users are available at login or when I go to start menu and click on my user.

    Please advise
