Old bluetooth dongle not work with new ear buds

I have an old bluetooth dongle that works well when connecting my win 10 PC to mobile phone and bluetooth speakers that needs a passcode when pairing. Recently I bought a ear buds and able to pair with my mobile phone without passcode, the ear buds does not come with any passcode. Now when I try to connect the ear buds to my PC, the PC can show the ear buds in its bluetooth device list, but when try to pair it, it still prompt me to enter passcode which the ear buds does not have one. Does it means my bluetooth dongle is too old for the ear buds? If I have to buy another newer dongle, what should I look for? Bluetooth v4.1? v5.0? or whatelse? How can I know what version is my old bluetooth dongle? Please help.

My PC is running Win10 Ent 2004 (OS Build 19041.985)

  3. Galaxy Ear Buds connect to Windows 10 pc as "voice"

I mostly use my ear buds to listen to music and/or videos on my pc so the sound doesn't bother anyone else. The buds connected as audio output and worked great. A week or so ago I used the buds on my smartphone for some long "wait on hold" calls. Again, worked great. Now, I went back to use the buds as audio output on my pc and they will only connect as voice.

In the sound settings the buds show connected as a Input Device and are not an option for Output Device. In the Sounds popup (playback, recording, sounds, communication tabs) window the buds show on the playback tab as "disconnected" while in the Sound Setting they show connected as a Input Device.

Not sure what to do next to use the buds as audio output on my pc?

Female Connector for ear buds, headset or radio listening

I am on my 3rd Nokia 925 Windows phone because the output connector for the audio appears to be very fragile, or else the 3 different phones I had came from a bad batch. I have tried about a dozen different ear buds, headsets or cables for car listening.
Initially the connection works fairly well, but as more connections and disconnections are made it becomes impossible to maintain a connection and the sound shuts off with any slight movement. I have not had this type of problem with other phones I have owned.

Anyone else experienced this issue? Since an exchange phone is probably a refurbished unit, I cannot accept that I have been the only one.
