Windows 10: i bought a cable from vga to display port, but I can't make 1080p resolution

i used to use an hdmi converter and I was having a breakdown, and I bought and connected a cable from vga to the display port to my 1680 x 1050 monitor, and when I bought this cable, I can't select the 1080p setting, how can I activate it?

Looking for a high quality Display Port to VGA cable for my Microsoft Display Dock

Hello, I've been online and to a few stores such as Staples, Best Buy and Radio Shack. Can anyone suggest a store that sells high quality Display Port to VGA cables? Ideally 3 feet in length. By the way, I saw the cheap ones on Amazon. I'm wary of them.

PS: What the heck are they using in MS HQ and why aren't they in the store?

Update: I ordered a cable fro Staples. I use a Tripp Lite model P581-003-VGA DisplayPort to VGA cable which serves the purpose. I can run Continuum without any problems.

 

I bought VGA to HDMI cable but it doesn't work

If what you bought is just a cable with a VGA connector on one end and an HDMI connector on the other end, it will never work for you.

You probably bought an HDMI to VGA cable. That won't work in reverse.

The VGA port on your computer produces an analog signal.

The HDMI port on your fancy new TV requires a digital signal.

You need an adapter that converts analog to digital. These converters need to be powered, which is why all VGA to HDMI adapters have a USB cable that connects to a USB port on your computer AND -- because HDMI carries both audio and video signals -- an
audio cable that will connect to the audio output port on your computer.

Windows 10 upgrade messed up 2nd monitor resolution on vga port

Running ASUS A88X-PRO connected to 2 identical ASUS ProArt 246 monitors at 1920x1200 recommended resolution. One monitor connected through DVI port and second monitor on the VGA port. Everything worked fine with Windows 8.

Upgraded to Windows 10 monitor on the VGA port would only display the central 70-80% portion of the image even though both monitors set to the same 1920x1200 resolution.

Installed latest BIOS and chipset updates and drivers for Windows 10. Tried swapping monitors but problem is always with the VGA port monitor. Went through Control Panel, rechecked display settings numerous times without improvment.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
