Windows 10: I can only use one monitor at a time

I have been having display issues with my computer for some time now. 6 months back I bought a second monitor and while connected, was causing my other monitor that I game on to get locked at 60hz for some reason. When I unplug the other monitor, its refresh rate reverts to 165hz. I ended up getting frustrated and letting my dad use it and was just using one monitor for a while. Recently I bought a new monitor and want to use it as part of a dual monitor set up but to my surprise windows now won't let me connect both of them. Trouble with 2 monitors

I suggest you to change the settings to Extended Monitor and check if it helps.

Please follow below steps:

• Right Click any ware of the Desktop, and launch Personalization.
• Go to dual monitor settings under personalization, and change it Extended Monitor.

• What changes did you make in the BIOS? As making the changes in the BIOS is only recommended by Microsoft if done by the manufacturer.
  

• How are you connecting to the 2nd monitor?
