I can ping sites but cannot browse them

    I have a windows 10 computer.

I don't know how it happens but I walk away from my computer and hours later come back to work on it and I can ping sites but cannot browser any site until I restart the computer.

I have tried all of the following to no avail.

    net start dhcp

    net start dnscache

    netsh i i r r

Rem Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Rem WINSOCK entries to installation defaults

    netsh winsock reset catalog

Rem release and renew IP and DNS

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    Rem Flush routing table

    route /f

Again, I can ping any site but cannot browse.

I even tried different web browsers and I check for proxy settings and still does it no matter what I tried.

I can restart the computer and it starts working again, but don't know what is causing this issue.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated

    Johnny

    :)

  2. Can ping but not browse

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community.

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Please follow the methods mentioned below:

    Follow the steps:

    Step 1: Internet Connection troubleshooter.

    • Press the Windows Key + W on the keyboard.
    • Type troubleshooting in the search box and then press
      Enter.
    • Select Troubleshooting. Click on

    • Check if there are any packets are lost.
    Method 2:

Step 1: One of the components of the Internet connection on your computer is a built-in set of instructions called TCP/IP. TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or corrupted. If
you cannot connect to the Internet and you have tried all other methods to resolve the problem, TCP/IP might be causing it.

Let’s reset the winsock entries and TCP/IP stack and to troubleshoot the issue further.

    Follow the steps:

    • Press Windows Key + X together and select
      Command Prompt (admin).
    • Type the following command and hit Enter after each:
    • netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)
    • netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)
    • Reboot the computer and check.
    Step2:
    Flush your computer's DNS cache.

    • From Start screen, type command prompt.
    • Right-click on Command Prompt
      and choose Run as Administrator.
    • At the command prompt, type the following commands. Press Enter after each command.
    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

Also I suggest you to refer to the below articles and check if it helps.

Can't browse but can ping OK

Windows 10 x86 (upgrade some months ago) recently cannot browse web site with any of four browsers, AVG antivirus removed, Bonjour uninstalled, second ethernet card added without IPv6 and no differences. Does work OK in Safe Mode with Networking after various
    flushes and resets.

Can ping by name or IP OK, browsing by name or IP doesn't work. DNS works.

Powershell Test-NetConnection www.google.com -port 80 gives ping in 20 ms put TCP fail

    All windows updates in place.

Turning off Windows firewall or adding Chrome as a permitted program made no difference.

    Run out of ideas....

    Can ping but not browse

    Hi Bob,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

    • Have you tried with other browser? Was the result same?
    • Were you able to ping your default gateway?

This issue may occur if the Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication for this network check box is selected. If this check box is selected, but there is no server to authenticate against, the connection is disconnected. If you reestablish
the wireless network connection, it disconnects again after a short time.

To disable IEEE 802.1X authentication, follow these steps:

    a. Windows + R, type ncpa.cpl, and then hit Enter.

    b. Right-click your wireless network connection, and then clicks Properties.

    c. Click the Wireless Networks tab.

    d. Under Preferred networks, click your wireless network, and then click Properties.

    e. Click the Authentication tab, click to clear the Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication for this network check box, and then click OK two times.

    Do keep us updated.

    Regards,
