  1. I can still hear my microphone even when listen to device is disabled

So I just bought a new headset after my old one broke. The problem is that I hear myself all the time and other programs will no longer record or hear me. I have tried for hours to get it working: I tried updating the drivers, checking the device properties, resetting the device. It sometimes just decides to work properly for a small amount of time until I do something that requires the microphone to be used. My old headset didn't have any problems with the microphone and I really do not know how or what makes this new one behave so weird.

    :)

Mic Input Playing - While Listen To Device is disabled

When an application is listening to the microphone, I can hear it playing everything it hears back to me.

Device: SteelSeries Diablo 3 USB Headset

    SteelSeries Engine 3 - Installed

Listen to this device - Disabled

But when an application goes to use the microphone it starts playing back to me, even if its just opening the Recording Devices window

    Any Ideas?

    - Edit

All other input devices are disabled

No other audio management software is installed.

    Easy enable/disable microphone?

My bro just got a microphone and I was wondering if there's an easy way to enable or disable it. I know you can right click on the volume icon, click on select recording devices then select the microphone, then click properties, then click on levels, and mute it - but that's just way too many steps, I'm looking for a more obvious and much easier way to do it.

Friends can't hear me with microphone on windows 10

    Hi Mr Jagger,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Did you check listening with other headphones?

The issue cab be resolved by making Microphone as the default device and updating the sound card drivers.

Make sure that the microphone that you are using is not disabled and is set as default in the computer. Follow these steps to check this:

    • Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.

    • Now, right click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.

    • Select “Microphone” and click on “Properties” and make sure that the microphone is enabled.

    • You may also check if the microphone that you are using is set as default.
Also suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

    • Type “Troubleshooter” in the Search box and hit enter.

    • Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.

    • Select “Playing Audio” under Sound option.

    • Follow the On Screen instructions.
    Hope it helps.
