  2. Can't Access Either of My External Drives After 14393

    Hi Michael,

To better assist you with your concern, I would like to ask if you're getting any error messages when accessing your external drives? If yes, can you provide us with the exact error message?

As an initial troubleshooting, we suggest you to follow the steps below:

    • Go to Device Manager.
    • Click on USB Mass Storage.
    • Right click on your USB, and then click on Update Driver Software.
    • Once done, check if you can access your external drives.

    Regards.

  3. external hard drive

    Hi Diane

Local and external storage devices are accessed from with File Explorer > This PC

Are you not seeing the 'This PC' link File Explorer on the left side of the navigation pane?

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Disk Management

Do you see your external drive listed there?

Windows 10: Set up external Drive D as default for all storage

The default location for your personal files has to be an internal drive unless you make the default location OneDrive. (For iTunes it might be iCloud.)

You understand why it is that way ... your external drive can be accidentally or unwittingly disconnected, and Windows needs to have a default storage location that won't do that.

If you're storing your files in the cloud, there's probably a way to store them anywhere in the cloud, not just OneDrive, if that's your preference.
