  1. I cannot boot from a new SSD with Windows 10 installed on it

    Here is the situation:

I had an old SSD. It has Windows 10 on it.

I bought a new SSD. I want to install Windows 10 on it, and use the old drive as storage.

I boot from a Windows installer on USB, install to the new SSD (which has been partitioned and formatted). Everything works fine so far.

PC reboots...and now I see a dual boot screen. The PC will now boot into either version of Windows (the old one and new one).

In the BIOS, the two drives are listed as:
UEFI Windows Boot Manager - P2: Zotac

    P1: Crucial SSD

If I set the old drive to boot first, the system will boot to the dual boot screen

If I set the new drive to boot first, I get:

"An operating system was not found. Try disconnecting any drivers that don't contain an operating system."

Even though Windows 10 is installed on it and works.

So I went into the new version of Windows, into msconfig, and removed the old version of Windows from the boot section. Now the computer directly boots into the new version of Windows on the new SSD.

However, if I go back into the BIOS, it is still booting from the old SSD. If I change it, I get the operating system not found error.

Now I am being held hostage by this old drive. If I format the drive, I am scared I won't be able to boot at all. I have no idea what is going on.

The old drive is still listed as the active partition and it cannot be changed.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on?

I've built dozens of computers over my life and never had anything like this ever happen.

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?

    windows 10 slow boot

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.
