Windows 10: I cannot create a USB recovery drive on a brand new Dell XPS-8960 running Windows 11 Home 23H2

I just bought this PC from Dell. The first thing I did was download and install all the available upgrades and patches. I've basically done nothing else with it since then. I tried following the instructions here: Create a recovery drive - Microsoft Support The instructions say I need 16 Gig or more, and the USB stick is USB3.0 / 32 Gig / FAT32. I have verified that I can read from and write to the USB stick, so I think it is not the problem. When I get to the "Connect a USB Flash Drive" screen, the recovery drive creation tool does not enable the "Next" button. The screen says, "The dr

Installing Windows 11 from a recovery USB on Dell Inspiron 3580

Hi,

Background:

Drive was showing signs of death. Machine had Win 11 installed and updated.

• I created a USB recovery drive as per MS instructions.
  
• I removed the old drive, and added a new SSD drive.
  
• Upon boot Windows Setup launches. I select language, time and currency, and keyboard (all defaults) and click Next.
  
• I click Install Now.
  
• Setup starts.
  
• I respond to the applicable notices and license terms affirmatively and click Next.
  
• I am seeing 2 options: Upgrade which is not available because I am booting with a USB drive. I choose Custome, Install Windows Only. Which is fine by me.
  
• I choose the new drive from the list.
  
• The installation runs from Copying Windows files to Finishing up. All steps are marked complete.
  
• Then the Windows Setup launches again.
  

Dell diagnostics show the new drive is functional, and no other problems were found.

Can anyone please suggest what I might try next/differently, etc.?

I am running Windows 11 on brand new Dell XPS 15 9520, crashes several times a day and go to recovery mode.

64Gb RAM

dual M2 4Tb SSD on RAID

no pattern, just ramdom halt and have to force power off. After get in Recovery mode, then shut shown, back to normal. Occassionally had to do it few times to become normal.

 

create recovery drive won't recognize usb

After following the instructions on creating a recovery drive the program does not see a usb drive inserted. There is no list of drives to choose from. I am using a brand new 32gig drive. I just installed the November update to version 1511. Any ideas??
