Windows 10: I cannot enable or disable any services on my pc windows 10. every button is gray

I cannot enable or disable any services on my pcwindows 10. every button is gray under path to executable, does anyone know how to make the buttons not gray?

Task Scheduler Service Could NOT RESTART - all button GRAYED - NOT ALLOWED to Start Service

OS: Windows 10

I disabled Task Scheduler Service but later could not ENABLE this SERVICE - all button grayed - now can not run DiskDfrangment

It was disabled thru below process

pressing windows + X

then pressing computer management

then pressing Services and Applications

then pressing Services

then double clicking Task Scheduler to get properties

then was disabled

NOTE: Thousands of people facing this problem but proper step by step solution was not available in the net. So, it would be highly appreciated, if someone could provide step by step solution for ENABLING TASK SCHEDULER SERVICE, which is GRAYED, which
is not ALLOWED to ENABLE on Services and Applications, the solution could be thru Registry or thru other method!!!

 

grayed out services in Windows 10

I am running Windows 10 Home 1709 version. I just cleanly installed it from scratch and have not connected to internet yet. For now, I am only trying to harden the system first from within its only admin account I create as part of setup.

As part of this hardening, I normally disable some of the services. With this Windows version, however, I noticed a couple of those are grayed out when I go to disable them and so I cannot change their default Automatic settings.

Specifically, "DNS Client" and" WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto Discovery" services are grayed out from being able to be disabled.

I had no issues disabling these on earlier version of Windows 10 Home (I think it was 16xx).

I tried stopping real-time anti-virus protection from Windows Defender but that did not help.

Questions:

(1) Why are some services grayed out from being disabled by admin?

(2) What's special about these 2 services now that they are grayed out?

(3) What's the best workaround?

I've seen one via registry changes (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ -> find your service name (folder) -> set Start entry to 4) but have not tried it yet, as I figured maybe I must have these running now, unlike before.

In addition, "Xbox Game Monitoring" service is not grayed out but when trying to Disable it and clicking Ok or Apply button, I get error message saying "Access is denied". So again, unclear why that is.

Location icon grayed out and not working in windows 10 creators update

We suggest that you check if the following service is enabled to activate the Location icon:

• Press Windows key + R.
• Type service.msc in the Run dialog box and select
  Services.
• Right-click on Windows Location Framework Service and click
  Stop.
• Once done, right-click again on Windows Location Framework Service and click
  Start.
• If the service is enabled, try disabling and re-enabling and check if the issue persists.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested steps.
