Windows 10: I cannot log into my laptop with a correct password.

I have a Dell Inspiron 16 5620 running Windows 11 Professional. I was locked out of my machine after three unsuccessful attempts to read my finger print. Generally this is not a problem - I use another device to reset my password and log in using my username and correct password. Unfortunately, that did not work. I have reset my password twice and know that it and my username are correct because I have used them to log into three other devices HP Pavilion lap top, Mac mini, and Microsoft surface. I have attempted to restart my computer in safe mode by holding down the shift key while choos

We understand how difficult it could be and we appreciate the time and effort that you have taken to work this issue. However, in order to get clarity, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

1. Were you using the “Old email (account) address” regardless of not using laptop?
   
2. Are both the email addresses linked?
   
3. Could you please let us know, where exactly you get prompt for the password for the “Old email address” in the desktop?
   
4. What is the exact error message you get when you try to log in to laptop?
   
5. Does your desktop has two user profiles?
   

In the meantime, we would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check.



You would need to have internet connection in laptop, so that the password change could get updated and it seems that the laptop is not connected to the internet, we would suggest you to connect Ethernet cable to laptop and then
try logging in to the laptop with the new password for the old email address.

"I used Microsoft Account password before. Now I cannot log on with correct password. It was not local account. I do not mind losing all data but need to make laptop working. "

Thanks Bill for the comments. I can appreciate the rules and I am not trying to circumvent them. What is interesting here is that he is using a gmail address as his computer login. When I reset his microsoft password, I can step through all of the steps
and get to a point where we can log into in account on live.com.

On the recent activity page under security in account, I can see the attempts to log in on the computer giving incorrect password entered. That seems to confirm that the laptop is on the network.

Why is it not accepting the changed password configured in live.com?
