Windows 10: I cannot log into my microsoft account on any application on my PC.

I am completely able to log into the account normally through a web browser, so as far as I know there are no issues with my account. This issue I am having is that I can not log into any microsoft application on my computer, despite reinstalling all of them multiple times. This includes: All of Microsoft Office, The Feedback Hub, The Windows Store Although I can't even open the store application at all, that is a whole separate issue.


This is a new problem I am having, I have not had issues with this in the past, as far as I can remember.

For example:


When opening Microsoft Word, I have it shown as an unlicensed product. If I click "sign in" at the top, it opens a box asking me to enter in my email address. After entering it in and pressing continue, I get a loading screen that says "Just a moment..." for upwards of 5 minutes before it tells me that something went wrong due to Error 0x800706d9. Notably, if I enter an invalid email address, it sends back validation and does not allow me to continue past the first step until I fix the email.





If I try to sign into just the base Microsoft Office application, it asks me to differentiate between if my account is a "Microsoft Account" or a "Work or School Account". When I select "Microsoft Account", the same loading screen commences even before I get a chance to enter in my email at all, and leads to the same error message.


Notably, if I click "work or school account", it actually loads the login page and allows me to enter my email and password, but results in the error AADSTS50020, effectively saying that my account does not exist in tenant Microsoft services. I presume it has to do with the fact that my account is not a work or school account.


I have extensively searched the internet for solutions to my issue and have found nothing that has worked. At this point I do not know if I need to just reinstall windows in order to get it to work for me.


Does anyone know of anything that I can do to help fix this situation? Let me know if you need more detailed information about the computer or its software.

• I built this PC about 2 years ago
• I just graduated from college, so the account that I used to log into microsoft applications with has been deactivated
• I also use this computer to log into teams with my work account, and that works just fine

Just go back to using a local account:

But when I'm done, I'd like to use my local account each time to log in.
Please tell me how to do that.

Also may I suggest you change email accounts to one of the following.....

Gmail
Outlook

The reason is they both use "Step two verification". This style of verification means even if a hacker gets your password they cannot log in to your account. You see every time someone try's to log in that hasn't been verified you will get a text or a phone call giving you a final code to log in. Its very easy and simple to setup also. The great thing is once you setup your Email application with a specific "application password" from that account you never have to log in again AND your account is protected from being logged in from foreign entities.

I like the new outlook personally however Gmail is also damn good. Gmail also has an IP tracker that allows you to see WHERE the account has been logged in from. Anyway let us know if you wanna change over and have any questions. We will be happy to help and welcome to TPU!
