Windows 10: I cannot log into my MS 365 apps. I get an error 0x80070422 after I enter my email. It also...

I can log into my account on a browser just not the apps themselves. I have checked that all MS updates are installed, rebooted my computer, checked my internet connection, and tried to have my wife log in on her account.

Outlook Error 0x80070422 When adding adding my default Windows Email for Hotmail to Outlook

I'm running Windows 10, and I simply went to add my Hotmail account email to the "Mail App" (Outlook) and it gave me the error: Something went wrong, sorry we weren't able to do that. Error
0x80070422.

I find this extremely odd considering the steps I took:

Clicked on Windows (or "start") button, clicked the big Mail icon app, there were no accounts so I clicked on Add account, then immediately, at the top of the list was my hotmail account that I use to sign in to windows whenever I log into the computer.
I click it, and that's when I got the above error message.

What gives? Any fixes out there for this?

Yes, once 2-factor authentication is enabled you should then create the app specific password & enter it instead of the account password.

I went this route and added passwords for yahoo mail. I might try this method above to get gmail to buck up! *Tongue

YAHOO MAIL FIX
2FA needs to be enabled which it already was and just follow these steps below.

1. In yahoo mails account security, click on manage app passwords.




2. After selecting other app and entering the new app name in the text box




3. Now, in Windows 10 mail app, add this type of account.




4. In Windows 10 mail app, enter your details and the password generated by step 2.




Fully functional mail app again.



GMAIL FIX

Now similar steps to setting up Gmail. Here I'll only go through the Gmail steps as Windows Mail App setup is the exact same.
