Windows 10: I cannot open .mp4 files, Microsoft WinRT Storage API replaced Movies & TV

Hi there. Today, I opened my computer to find I am unable to open .mp4 files. The default app for video, which used to be Movies & TV, has been replaced by Microsoft WinRT Storage API. I looked online, and many who experience similar issues cannot access the Microsoft Store or Photos or any default apps, but Movies & TV seems to be the only one affected by this. I uninstalled and reinstalled Movies & TV. In Default Apps, I am unable to change the default app for .mp4 files from Microsoft WinRT Storage API back to Movies & TV because it does not show up. Just noting that unfortunately the steps listed here do not work in all cases - it hasn't worked on either my desktop or laptop PCs.

• On my desktop the "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" open with option was somehow linked with ClipChamp - I did try uninstalling and reinstalling that in a similar way (as well as the paint and photo apps) but no luck.
  
• On my laptop the "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" open with option isn't linked with any other app.
  

I've since tried completely removing the OpenWithList registry entries for ".jpg" and even that had no effect, even though it recreated a blank registry entry. So I don't know where the menu items are coming from!

Can you confirm you tried the following steps before running the DISM command?

• Right-click on a JPG file and choose Properties.
  
• Click "Change"
  
• Select "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" from the list.
  

If so, the association didn't take effect. We'll have to try a different approach.

Glad you located the problematic ProgID. You can safely remove the value "AppXvsqkg1th80rv6s2rkh5m1hjp3hxryydd" from the OpenWithProgIDs key.

You can try this command from PowerShell admin:

• get-appxpackage *clipchamp* -allusers | remove-appxpackage
  

And use DARF.vbs (optionally) to see if there are remnant entries related to Clipchamp.
