  1. I cannot restore a registry edit I exported

    Context:

I have been trying to understand this registry hack to show the option to open both command prompt and shell using a right-click context menu.

    source: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/ar...ere-shift-right-click-context-menu-experience

I first made a system restore point just in case and then also exported the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory key to make a backup. I then made a text file and copied the registry hack into it and ran it with the .reg extension.

It changed the registry and worked as intended.

Problem:I then decided I wanted to see what the registry looked like before so I tried to run my registry backup for the directory key but it wouldn't run: "some keys are open by the system or other processes, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation."

I right-clicked on the directory key and went to permissions and do have them, so why?

I then did a system restore, but that took ages and I don't want to do that again : P

    Editing the registry

I will suggest you to run "sfc /scannow" and "dism /online /cleanup-image /restore-health" scans in an elevated command Prompt. You should export entire registry before doing this, and for cleaning registry CCleaner is a good tool.
