Windows 10: I can't add an account asking for two step authentication because it still thinks it is...

I had two step authentication turned on for an account I have with primetel. I added this account to in the Microsoft Authenticator on my old phone and it was working as needed. I now have a new phone so want to add primetel to my new phones authenticator, but am being asked for a QR code? My primetel account is still showing that two step authentication is turned on. How do I reset this so I can add my account to the authenticator on my new phone? Note I have already contacted primetel and they said they can't reset it, and that I have to ask Microsoft.

two step authentication

I have exactly the same problem - recently activated two step authentication and now the Marketplace will not sign in when trying to perform updates. It also appears to affect my XBox Live sign in too. These appear to be the only apps so far to have this
problem on my phone.

The steps above (i.e. obtaining an app password from Sign in to your Microsoft account) worked fine for my Outlook email account and for my Live account in the settings page under Email+Accounts, however the Marketplace app still asks for authentication
(with what looks like my old password cached, judging by the length). I enter a fresh generated app password but it is not accepted. The error is a standard,

"There is a problem with your Live ID. Try again or sign in with a different Windows Live ID."

In case there was a problem with the copy/paste mechanism I tried,

• On the phone IE using the 'Copy password' button
• On the phone IE Selecting the password text on the page and copying
• On my Desktop computer, entering it in manually

None of which worked.

I have Windows Phone 7.8 on a Lumia 800.

Windows Microsoft account authentication

I have a valid Microsoft account and a Windows 10 PC with Hello/PIN account login enabled. I also have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on an iPhone and configured for the Microsoft account. Additionally, I have two step authentication configured
for the Microsoft account. With all of that said, I have become very exasperated while trying to unravel the various authentication paths (and their security implications) through this multi level login security scheme. I find the associated account security
documentation to be woefully inadequate. Thus, I would like to pose the following list of questions for starters.

1. Does Windows Hello/PIN amount to a two step verification login procedure for my Microsoft account?

2. Does approving a Microsoft Authenticator login attempt (without two step verification explicitly set up)

amount to a two step verification login procedure for my Microsoft account?

3. Does approving a Microsoft Authenticator login attempt (with two step verification explicitly set up)

amount to a two step verification login procedure for my Microsoft account?

4. If answers to both 2 and 3 are yes, then what does explicit set up of two step authentication do?

5. Does a coherent, comprehensive document explaining Microsoft account security configuration exist somewhere?

6. If the answer to 5 is yes, wherer is it?
