Windows 10: I can't create a local account with my own name!

    I can't create a local account with my own name!


    This is a new Windows 11 PC. In setup I created a sign-in using my MS account but this has resulted in a User Folder called "dunca". I read up on how to change this to "Duncan" my name and, more importantly, part of the path of the files and shortcuts coming over from the old machine and so I tried changing the sign-in to a Local account, using the name "Duncan". This didn't change the User Folder name as I'd hoped so I tried to create a new Local Account, again using the name "Duncan" but it won't let me - it won't accept the name.I can't see anywhere to fix this so can anyone help, plea

    Local account installation question


    I'm fairly certain that Skip this step was available in 10.0.130 - the workaround in Step 20 (back button) is no longer required.

    The currently known, as of 10.0.130, ways to create a Local account sign-in are
    • Skip this step at the MS account creation phase
    • No Internet connection during the install
    • static IP (post# 2 by Fragment) - New (to me anyway)

    Go to https://account.microsoft.com, click Create account and fill the form:

    With a Microsoft account you can then use OneDrive and Office Online apps for free. You can also use built-in native Windows apps which require a Microsoft account like Mail, Skype Preview, People, Calendar and download apps from Windows Store.

    Local Account password changed to Online Account Password

    Hi,

    I suggest you to follow the steps on how to switch from Microsoft account to Local account:

    • Click on search in taskbar and type account.
    • Click on Accounts.
    • Now, under Your account, click on Sign in with Local account instead.
    • Enter your Microsoft account password for confirmation and then follow the screen instruction.
    • Enter User name credentials for your the Local account and click OK.
    • Now, login to Local account.
