  1. i cant drag folders to executable files

so recently I've been trying to make mods for some valve games but for some reason when I drag and drop folders to executables it doesn't let me, and I've seen that when I drag and drop executables to another, it looks like it was disabled by the system itself somehow, so now I can't drag and drop folders to executables, please help!

    :)

  2. Ways to Drag Files or Folders

    Summary:

This article covers ways to drag files or folders while working on File Explorer.

Here's a list of ways to copy, move, or create shortcuts:

CTRL while dragging a file - Copy a file to another drive or folder. *

SHIFT while dragging a file - Move a file to another drive. **

ALT while dragging a file - Create a shortcut to a file on the desktop or another location.

*: You can also drag a file or folder to another drive, which means copying.

**: If moving a file or folder to another folder on the same drive, you don't need to hold SHIFT while dragging a file or folder.

TIP: If you use your right mouse button to drag a file or folder to another folder or desktop and release it, you will get three options: Copy Here, Move Here, and Create Shortcut(s) Here.

  3. Why does Windows 10 exit to parent folder up on dragging a file to a network folder?

Can you provide some reproduction steps so I can test it out in the lab? Correct me if I have this wrong:

    • Open network folder ( \\server\folder\subfolder )
    • Take a file from desktop, and drag it into the openeed folder
    • The opened folder will jump up a level (to the "folder" in this example) after releasing

    Is that right?

Is it possible to disable file execution from drag and drop

Thank you for trying to be helpful, but let me try this again:

I do not have a problem actually copy-pasting and I can drag and drop copy-paste so long as I "drop" on a part of the target window that does not have a file listing. My directories are all displayed in Details View, which is what I want, so there are no
gaps between tiles that I suppose most users have as their regular environment. Therefore if I have a directory listing displayed in a window that does not have white space, I have to mess about to create some white space.

There is nothing actually wrong with my system so there is nothing sfc can contribute.

My question is not to solve a copy-paste problem per se, but to disable file execution via drag and drop.

To try to be more clear, the normal set up is that if a user drags a file (the source) and drops it on another file (target), Windows 10 will try to execute the target with the source file as a parameter. So a doc file dropped on WinWord.exe will cause WinWord
to execute and open the doc file. I do not want this behavior.

I think it's incredible that more users don't experience accidental file execution with the default behavior, but I find nothing on the subject with the closest being folks experiencing accidental moving aot copying. It's also almost wholly redundant since
if one wants to execute WinWord opening the doc file, one need only double click the doc file, no dragging involved. And that's the case for all standard files... so there's really no good reason to retain this drag, drop, execute function.

Regardless, if I want an executable file to be run, I will directly execute it, not drop one on top of another.

I know there is a way to disable this behavior in XP so I am hoping one exists in Win 10.
