Windows 10: I can't get Gmail to work with my Windows Live Mail

    I can't get Gmail to work with my Windows Live Mail


    I've googled for some instructions. My new Iphone SE seems to be working with the mail icon that came with the phone. I'm trying to get it to work with my PC using windows 7. I put all the info in and I get a message saying the server has issued an unrecognizable greeting. When I'm putting in my new gmail address for my incoming Mail server, and then it wants my password, is it wanting my new password for that Gmail email or the email for my Live Mail server that I use for my other accounts?

    OK thanks for that - look like I have to eiether ditch gmail or ditch Windows Live Mail and although I am angry at gmail (google) for doing what they did I don;t want to 'cut off my nose to spite my face' so I will need to get an email clinet server that will work on my PC that gamil is happy with . . . what is that software?

    I am running W10 on a PC. I've used Windows Live Mail for years (I like it and don't want to change). Last week WLM would not download mail from the google server stating that the username and password were wrong. (I can access that mail by logging into gmail via the internet using same username and password). I spent a day trying to fix it and failed). The next day it was working fine. and worked as normal for a week. Yesterday. mid day after being good in the morning, it did the same thing (failed to download mail from the google server suggested that the username and password were wrong). I left it overnight and today it still fails . . . why / what is going on?

    Works just fine if you get it all set up correctly.

    Outgoing port 587

    Incoming port 995

    Check both server requires authentication

    You need to log into your Gmail account and set it up for POP

    1. Click the gear
    2. Choose Settings
    3. Click Forwarding
    4. Enable POP

    You also need to turn off 2 step verification

    Turn off 2-Step Verification - Computer - Google Account Help

    There are sometimes delays of 10 minutes or more before settings take effect.
