I can’t get my headset microphone to work or be recognized on my Windows 10 laptop.


Only a “microphone array” shows up in Settings and device manager which corresponds to the laptop built-in mic, which works perfectly fine.

I tried with two different headsets headphones plus microphone, with combo 3.5 jack, which is the type physically available on the laptop, both of which work fine on any other device, including a Windows 10 desktop computer I also have.



When I configure my headset as “headset” in Realtek Audio Manager device advanced settings - Connector retasking - Analog or on the pop-up window, the built-in microphone stops working and the headset microphone still does not work.

I’ve already spent a few hours looking for solutions online and trying them out ‒ including looking for drivers, uninstalling device in the device manager and letting Windows reinstall it, etc. ‒ but nothing has worked yet.


This has not been a problem yet because the built-in laptop mic works well, but I’d prefer to have control over which hardware I’m using at a given moment.

Apple Headset/Microphone not working

Windows 10, have 3 Apple headsets. I can hear audio just fine but the microphone isn't recognized at all. I tried this on multiple laptops and while the audio is fine, I cannot get the microphones to work. It's the Apple wired earbuds. Windows isn't even recognizing that the microphone is there, it keeps defaulting to Realtek microphone on the laptop. I can't find drivers for this headset. I even spent three hours with Apple trying to troubleshoot and they FedEx'd me three brand new headsets. Well seems the issue persists even on the three new items. Any ideas. Even my IT guys at work can't figure out how to fix it.

Windows 10 does not recognize headset with microphone. Actually it does not recognize that the headset has a microphone.

The headset is properly integrated but not the microphone on the headset.

I have a new msi laptop with Windows 10, and my headset microphone is not recognized. It's a 2-jack set; the headphones work fine, but the microphone is not even recognized when plugged into the input jack. Onboard microphone works OK, but I prefer the headset. You
can see in the picture that the laptop's onboard microphone is there, but no options for any headset.





I updated the Realtek audio drivers through the Device Manager and still nothing. Several other people are talking about this but no clear answer as to what they did to resolve. The speech troubleshooter does not help: it keeps asking me to repeat a phrase
into my microphone, but the microphone is not even 'there' so to speak.
