Windows 10: I can't hear people but they can hear me in games and discord.

    I can't hear people but they can hear me in games and discord.


    I played Destiny 2 and my mic was just fine, however, after I downloaded the Xbox Companion app and/or pressed Win+G, my audio for hearing other people in discord and in-game chat stopped working. If anyone, and I mean ANYONE please help has ever had this or heard of this, and has an idea of what to do, that'd be great. I don't know if I accidentally did something to make it to where I can't hear people from the Xbox app, but any ideas would be great. PS. sorry for having crappy grammar.

    Can't hear voice chat and video calls and people can't hear me

    my pc specs

    • Windows 10 pro 64 bit w/update KB4023057
    • Intel Core i7-3770K
    • 32gb DDR3 RAM
    • GeForce gtx 970
    • Asus Z77 sabertooth
    So when I go to sound under Control panel everything shows up fine in playback and both microphones show up (my headset and webcam) and even when I enable playback I can hear myself just fine so I know its not hardware. But whenever i enter a chat like in
    skype, teamspeak, discord, or any game, Ican't hear anything and people can't hear me. I've double checked and i have the most current drivers and I have also re-installed the drivers from scratch with no change. i've had this issue for a few months and now
    my job heavily relies on skype so i need this fixed.

    Game Bar audio is fuzzy/hard to hear

    So when I'm recording games using Game Bar, I am perfectly able to hear the audio inside the game. But when my microphone is enabled, things become static and I can hardly hear my own voice unless I'm really loud. Here's a short video of what I mean:

    When people hear me inside the game (and on Discord, Skype, etc), my audio is perfectly fine. But for some reason when I try to record my own audio, it sounds awful.

    I would really appreciate some help on how to fix this, and I am open to trying new screen recording apps that are simple to use, can record my internal sounds as well as my own voice.

    We will need some more information to help you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps. Please reply with the following details:



    • How are you recording the games or videos?
    • When you say, “I can't hear anything” you are unable to get the in-game audio or your voice?
    • What is the make and model of the computer?
    • Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? To check type:
      winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
      Enter.


    If you are using Game bar to record the games or videos, I suggest you to refer the steps mentioned below:



    1. Press Windows key + I to open
      Settings.
    2. Click on Gaming.
    3. Click on Capture on the left pane.
    4. Clear the check box for Record gaming audio only.
    5. Follow the same steps for Broadcasting.


    Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.
