I regret the inconvenience caused to you. Let me help you.

I would suggest you that may also try saving a different file and check if you face any issue.

I would also suggest to follow these steps:

1. In Windows, click the “Start” button. In the search field, type the name of the document as you remember it. See if the file you’re looking for shows up.

2. Type in the file format you saved it as. It’s most likely you saved it as a Rich Text Format file, which is WordPad’s default file type. Type “*.rtf” in the search field. This will bring up all RTF files on your computer. You can also try .docx, .otf and
.txt. Make sure to type the asterisk to signify a file extension.

3. Check the Recycle Bin. On your desktop, click the “Recycle Bin” icon. Open it up and check to see if you deleted your WordPad file by accident. Select the item and click “Restore This Item.”

4. Check temporary files. Search for “*.TMP.”

Tips & Warnings

• If none of these methods work, your WordPad document is probably permanently deleted and you should rewrite the document. It’s a good idea to save often and take note of where your document is saved. Also, make a copy of your document and save it on an external
flash drive.

WordPad issue

One simple way is to open Wordpad, then click on the File tab and select Open. In the browse window that opens, navigate to where your .rtf file is kept, select it and click the Open button.






If Wordpad cannot open it, then try with Word as you did before, selecting the 'Open a Read Only copy' option you were offered. Once it is open in Word you can save as a different .rtf or a .doc file. Then Wordpad should be able to open the saved copy of the original file.

If RTF documents are opening in Word:

Right click an RTF document, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open xxx . . .'

If Wordpad is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Wordpad should be in that list . . .

Choosing Wordpad form one of those lists will reset the file associations on RTF documents and they should then automatically open in Wordpad . . .
