  2. powershell error running winget opens a "open with" window in windows 11

    Troubleshooting here:

    winget-cli/doc/troubleshooting at master · microsoft/winget-cli · GitHub

    Specifically, something related to this:

    1. The App Installer did not automatically add the PATH environment variable. You should add the path environment variable. The value to add is "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps". You can verify this by running %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\WindowsApps\winget from a command-prompt or & "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Microsoft\WindowsApps\winget" from a powershell. If the command runs then, but not before, then you very likely have a missing PATH environment component.

WinGet COM Server using 50% of my cpu

    Hey there!

My name is Ravi, an independent advisor and expert user. I am happy to help you. I can't open Winget :)

I understand how concerning and confusing to see such a high CPU usage. Please allow me to explain.

WinGet COM Server is a Windows process that runs when something is being installed or updated in the background. If multiple apps are being updated, the CPU usage increase. When the installation is completed, the CPU usage goes down.

WinGet COM Server is totally safe. You can lower down the CPU usage of the WinGet process on your computer by trying a few things.

    >> Update WinGet

1). Open the Microsoft Store by searching for it in the Start Menu.

2). In the Microsoft Store window, navigate to the Library by clicking the icon on the left toolbar.

3). Look for the App Installer and open it.

4). Click on the update button on the next screen.

5). See if the high CPU usage persists after updating the app.

    >> Disable Unnecessary WinGet Sources

1). Search for the Command Prompt in the Start Menu. Click the Run as administrator option to open a window.

2). Type in the following command and press Enter:

    winget source list

3). Use the following command to remove any source from the list:

    winget source disable <name>

4). Make sure to replace <name> with the name of the source shown in the output.

Feel free to get in touch again if you have any additional questions.

    Cheers,

    Ravi
