Windows 10: I can't play games due to holding down keys not working right

Hi,I have been having an issue with my laptop for a couple days now. Like a true gamer, I prefer to have my controls as wasd. However I have noticed while playing games such as toontown and minecraft that when I hold down certain keys for certain periods of time the characters will suddenly stop when the key is held down for a long period of time or when I am trying to turn with the "a" and "d" keys. As for minecraft, I have noticed that my computer won't let me hold down shift and thus I end up falling off of cliffs and into rivers. Does anyone know what kind of setting I need to mess with to

• Is the issue specific when playing games? Are you able to use the
  W,A,S,D keys while typing?
• Did you make any changes to the keyboard layout?
• This issue may arise due to driver conflicts or due to change in game settings.

I suggest you to check if the keyboard supports gaming mode key, if it does, I suggest you to check if the option is turned on.

Also check the game settings and game controllers and make sure that the controller keys are not changed.
