Windows 10: I cant recover my programs correctly from windows.old

I reinstalled windows 10 and I want to recover my programs and files so I can use them again.the problem is every time I try to open a folder I get this error: you don't currently have permission to access this folder, click continue to permanently get access to this folder.when I click on the continue button I get empty folder and the address bar is loading when it complete nothing happens, I tried using properties and changing the security options but it change the security file by file and this takes long time, so I clicked cancel when I click cancel it change the security for some files

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Yes, that would be a favorable solution if possible. But it requires what I said as a first step. Once he gets booted into the OS, then he can either use it as is or try to recover the product key. I'm not saying he couldn't do what you said, I was replying to another post that suggested simply copy/pasting documents from the old hard drive.
